The home guard & the ARP (Air Raid Protection) were trained as a local fighting force in readiness, it was ' backs against the wall and let the enemy have it!'
Devizes was a garrison for army training at the barracks camps on the outskirts of the town.
Come and see the original Pillboxes constructed along the canal to repel a possible attack from an enemy on his tour.
Hear about the Prisoner of War camp for German and Italian prisoners. Known as POW Camp No23, there were up to thirty iron 'Romney huts' that became home for these prisoners.
